Project Volunteer Coordinator, East Sussex

Project Volunteer is a relatively new initiative within Sussex Oakleaf which is hoping to inspire more people to become volunteers.

Sussex Oakleaf’s mission is to help people survive crisis and recover control in their lives. We offer integrated supported housing, registered care homes, floating support services and day services for people with mental health problems and other vulnerable people needing housing support.

A volunteer role has been created for a further Volunteer Coordinator to cover the East Sussex area for Project Volunteer. We try and support and offer these opportunities to vulnerable people across East and West Sussex through a whole range of housing and community-based activities.

Project Volunteer was launched last July and since that relatively short space of time we have fully processed over 20 new volunteers who are currently assisting us in the organisation, and we have over 20 more currently being processed. Sussex Oakleaf values its volunteers extremely highly and ensure they receive full supervision, annual appraisals and training where necessary.

We are currently looking for a Project Volunteer Coordinator to cover the East Sussex area. This will be a volunteer role and will be unpaid, although reasonable expenses will be paid. We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-organised person to volunteer on average half a day each week, with occasional meetings elsewhere in the area.  Some experience of mental health or substance misuse problems, either personal or work-related would be useful but not essential.

The Project Volunteer Coordinator – East Sussex will be required to set up a bank of volunteers covering East Sussex, and to direct the volunteers to areas where they can offer the most assistance and obtain the most satisfaction. These volunteers may come to us directly, via local Volunteer Bureaus and are often our own current or past service users.

The Project Volunteer Coordinator- East Sussex will interview each potential volunteer and deal with the required paperwork, including taking up references and obtaining CRBs.  Maintaining good records and ensuring volunteers receive supervision and appraisals from their managers will also be required.  The volunteer role will be based in Eastbourne.

If you are interested in this role please contact Sue Darnell, Project Volunteer Coordinator on susan.darnell@sussexoakleaf.org.uk for more details.
