On Saturday 7 September a group of enterprising 16 and 17 year olds raised a fantastic £296 for Sussex Oakleaf.
‘The Big Bang Brightonians’, who were participating in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, were challenged to change £50 into a stash of cash for Sussex Oakleaf’s temporary accommodation homeless service. The group set about tirelessly gaining support from businesses across Brighton to hold a Family Fun Day. The Fun Day was held on the BHASVIC playing fields in Brighton and the event was supported by friends, family and members of the public who enjoyed various stalls including face painting, a cake sale, bouncy castle and barbecue.
Anita van der Colff, Service Manager at Sussex Oakleaf, congratulated The Big Bang Brightonians saying: “Jo and I have found working with the group very refreshing and rewarding. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with some young people to raise their awareness around homelessness in particular that it is not something that happens to only one sector of the population.”
The cheque will be presented on Saturday 21 September 2013 at the Amex Stadium, Brighton, at the Brighton v Bolton match. Albion in the Community, the charitable arm of Brighton and Hove Albion, coordinate the NCS programme for the Brighton and Hove areas.
