Role Title : Conservation Group Co-Facilitator
Location : Buchan Park, Crawley
Hours : 10am to 3pm once a month (on the last Friday of the month)
Responsible To : Designated Manager
Role Outline
To assist the Park Rangers to run a Conservation Group for adults with mental health issues at Buchan Park, and also be involved in the daily tasks associated with the group.
Main Tasks
- Cut back overgrowth to restore wildflower-rich meadows.
- Create sunny glades for butterflies by coppicing woodland.
- Make the park easy to explore by keeping nature trails clear and accessible.
- Help expand an area of heath land and increase the local nightjar and reptile countryside.
- Pull out invasive, alien plants from a wildlife pond.
- Help with a survey - from counting adders to identifying butterflies. We monitor habitats to help us manage them.
- Clear litter to protect wildlife.
Experience
Experience of using or working in mental health services is desirable.
Knowledge and Understanding
To have empathy and understanding of the needs of people with mental health issues.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work in a group setting within a team.
- Good listening skills and able to support people in their recovery.
- Ability to signpost to appropriate agencies/services if necessary.
- Ability to support people in achieving their goals.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to respond to client needs.

- Outgoing, friendly and supportive individual who is able to demonstrate patience and understanding.
