1:1 Peer Mentor


ROLE SUMMARY:
To provide 1-1 support and encouragement to isolated and vulnerable adults wishing to regain their quality of life whilst experiencing/recovering from mental health issues. To include building confidence and independence, whilst working in a recovery focussed way.


KEY TASKS:

1) To act as a Mentor for people during their journey of recovery.

2) To assist in supporting clients to access community based resources and signpost people as appropriate.

3) To be involved in keeping appropriate records.

4) To communicate outcomes and concerns to the Service Manager.

5) To participate in supervision, team meetings and training as appropriate and in accordance with Sussex Oakleaf’s policies.

6) To be aware and work within the policies and procedures of Sussex Oakleaf.


KEY QUALITIES:

1) To have completed a Peer Mentoring course or equivalent (for example: any education that covers professionalism, boundaries, confidentiality and communication and listening skills).

2) To have personal experience of mental health issues.

3) To have good interpersonal and communication skills.

4) Ability to support people to achieve their goals.

5) To be empathetic and non-judgemental.
