The service aims to provide residents with the confidence, skills and choices to enable them to work with staff towards becoming as self-reliant and independent as possible, to promote fulfilment and an enhanced quality of life. The nature of the support is very much community based, with peer support and client engagement being key components.

In addition to longer term placements, the service also offers structured rehabilitation and recovery support for people wanting to move into a supported housing placement within 12 to 24 months. The skilled and trained staff work 1:1 with people to identify their hopes and aspirations and draw up a goal-orientated action plan to develop the necessary skills and confidence to achieve the next stage of independence. The service encourages appropriate, positive risk taking as this is viewed as an essential part of learning and recovery.

Clients are encouraged to play a central role in the planning of their support. Recovery focused support plans are drawn up with the keyworker to meet the needs, wishes and choices to empower the individual to regain control over their life and promote their independence. Emphasis is placed on daily living skills, self care, interpersonal and community links, in addition to psychological wellbeing, cultural, spiritual, emotional and social needs. The home has a training kitchen where clients are able to cook independently or receive one-to-one coaching and support from staff to help them gain skills and confidence to cater independently.

Daubeney House promotes community participation, social inclusion and links in with community services, both day services and mainstream services. We work closely with the multi disciplinary Community Mental Health Team, family/carers, advocates and other professionals to ensure the best possible care and support is provided.

“Life here is not bad at all, much better than at the Hospital. I’m able to listen to my radio when I want and go into town to have a look in the shops. I’m better off in a group home. I enjoyed the holiday, I fed the ducks and enjoyed myself”.

“I can’t go far on my own, I have a job to get around, get on the bus, and stand - staff help me. I enjoyed the holiday, I sat and watched tennis, walked around the grounds and went to cinema”.

“Since I’ve been here I think I have improved, I can go out more, do my own shopping and prepare my meals. I enjoy the opportunity of having holidays and trip to Paris”.
